Prostate Artery Embolisation approved by NICE for use in NHS and private patients

After a robust process and thorough assessment of the evidence, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has issued recommendations stating that prostate artery embolisation is safe and has a place in treating patients in the UK.

UKRoPE study published

The UK registry of prostate artery embolisation study was published in April 2018. This multicentre UK based study of both prostate artery embolisation and surgical treatment for symptomatic patients with lower urinary tract symptoms at 17 separate hospitals was sponsored by NICE and supported by both the British Society of Interventional Radiology and the British Association of Urological Surgeons. It showed that PAE is safe and gave good outcomes in patients in the first year post treatment. The authors suggest that PAE has a place in the management of such symptomatic patients.

BSIR supports progress in PAE

The British Society of Interventional Radiology has collated a list of the UK centres undertaking PAE and issued information and guidance for patients in this exciting new treatment.
